Year 12s Tour the Swan Valley
Over two days during March a select number Year 12 students explored the Swan Valley region as part of their Certificate II in Tourism studies. This amazing triangle of land bounded by Midland, Guildford and the northern intersection of West Swan Road and Great Northern Highway provided a wonderful opportunity as a tourism study area.
On the first day students were the tourists, visiting places of interest in the Swan Valley. These included tasting the delights of the Margaret River Chocolate Company, Lavender Bistro, and The House of Honey where we also saw the inside of a beehive. They also had lunch at the Swan Valley Vegetarian Café where they learned about customer service for people with special dietary needs and wrapped up the day by sampling the coffees at Yahava Koffeeworks.
Day two saw students try their hand at being the Tour Guide, demonstrating their exemplary tour guiding skills on the historical walks of Guildford. They also gave a bus commentary using a microphone as the class were bussed along the Swan Valley Food and Wine Trail. These skills were then transferred to the College Campus when JFSC hosted the ECC Japanese Exchange Students. The Year 12 Tourism students guided the visiting Japanese students around the College in small groups. It was a privilege to be part of welcoming the students to Western Australia.
