Netball Specialist Program
Our Specialist Netball Program is a Department of Education Approved Specialist Program.
Students study two hours per week in Year 7-8 and four hours per week in Years 9-10, receive professional coaching and the opportunity to be involved in regular competitions. Students are mentored towards achieving umpiring and coaching accreditations. From 2025 students in Year 10 students will have the opportunity to complete their Foundation Coaching Accreditation. The solely online course outlines introductory coaching information and basic netball techniques.
The program is coordinated by Diane Papas and Tayla Nettleton, Specialist Netball Teachers with access to U19 Warriors Futures state league coach Haylee McKee and visiting Professional Coaches.
The program covers the development of netball skills, strategies, fitness training and testing. The opportunity exists for senior school students to continue being involved in Netball playing and officiating to support Certificate II Sport & Recreation and Certificate II Sports Coaching studies.
Students have the opportunity to participate in intra-state and inter-state Netball tours. They are expected to maintain a high level of participation and achievement in all other learning areas.
The program has enjoyed significant success in:
- Regularly Regional (NERPEA) Carnival winners
- Specialist Netball Schools Carnivals
- Consistently progress to SSWA Champion Schools Finals Day
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
We are proud to offer students the opportunity to pursue their individual interests and strengths through participation in one of our four Specialist Programs. The Specialist Programs are timetabled as electives. Queries about the impact of this on student course selection may be discussed with the Deputy Principal. Students enrolled in the Netball Specialist Program have many exciting opportunities to develop strong netball, teamwork and leadership skills. The Netball Program provides exertion and challenge, treatment of the subject in depth and the pursuit of excellence. With those opportunities comes the responsibility to commit to the program and the team.
