Remembrance Day 2025
On Tuesday 11 November 2025 the College came together to mark Remembrance Day. Please find below the reading given by 2026 Head Prefects Emily and Trisna:
Today, we gather as a school community to mark Remembrance Day — a solemn occasion to honour the courage, service, and sacrifice of the men and women who have served in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping missions around the world.
At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we pause to remember those who gave their lives so that we may enjoy the freedoms we have today. It is also a time to reflect on the enduring importance of peace, compassion, and understanding in our world.
While the 11th of November marks Armistice Day, commemorating the end of the First World War, Australia’s involvement in conflict spans many generations. Our soldiers have demonstrated extraordinary bravery and resilience — from the ANZACs at Gallipoli, to those in the trenches of the Western Front, to the jungles of Vietnam and beyond. Their sacrifices have helped shape our national identity and the values we hold dear.
As we honour the past, we must also acknowledge the present. Today, the world continues to witness devastating conflicts — in Palestine, Sudan, and Ukraine — where the human cost is profound. These ongoing tragedies remind us of the urgent need to strive for peace, justice, and a world where violence is never the answer.
As students and future leaders, each of you has a role to play in building a better world. By learning from history, advocating for peace, and showing empathy to those affected by conflict, we can honour the legacy of those who served — not just in remembrance, but through action.
In a moment, we will observe a minute of silence. I ask that during this time, you reflect with gratitude on the service and sacrifice of others, and consider how we can contribute to a more peaceful future.
I will now read the Ode of Remembrance, which will be followed by the Last Post, a minute of silence, and the Rouse, during which the flag will be raised.
They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them
Lest we forget
